New Book Highlights Creativity of New Zealand Women

by AIPA

Spirit: Conversations with Creative Women is the first book by photographer Ann Orman and writer Jannine Wilkinson. The 318-page volume beautifully showcases thirty-four New Zealand women creatives through stunning images and stories of passion, dedication and inspiration.

For over three years Jannine and Ann researched, interviewed, photographed and wrote the stories of these creative people as a celebration of their work, and their struggles to make a living from their passion. These women have opened their homes, workspaces and hearts, sharing deeply intimate accounts of their personal challenges and determination to follow their instincts to create.

There is a broad cross-section of talent featured, encompassing the worlds of art, craft, performance and design. They vary in age, from early 20s to late 70s, and come from all walks of life, heritage and backgrounds.

The photography clearly showcases Ann’s love of artisans. Her portraits of the women are relaxed and comfortable, while her close-up images of hands, tools and personal items add context and depth to the accompanying stories.

The foreword for the book has been written by the Rt Hon Helen Clark, who is well connected in the art world and known for her support of women in many aspects of life.

Spirit: Conversations with Creative Women is available now for NZ$89.95. To order your copy visit www.thecreativecollectivespirit.co.nz/the-book
