Simon Devitt: We Trust Our Eyes Too Much

On Thursday, March 20th, the AIPA will host a talk with renowned architectural photographer Simon Devitt at 921 Studios in Christchurch.

Simon challenges the traditional paradigms of perception, asserting that other senses – touch, hearing, even smell – can foster deeper connections to the structures we photograph and result in more dynamic, emotive imagery.

By sharing unconventional techniques and insights, we are encouraged to re-think your creative process, framing architectural photography not merely as a documentation of physical structures, but as a multi-sensory experience that can elicit the true essence of a space, transcend its physicality, and, most importantly, tell its unique story.
